#JusJoJan~1/31/22

Thanks Linda for hosting and thanks Susan for the prompt. Looks like we made it … sang in my imitating Barry Manilow voice. Ha! Quite the whirlwind month. January was Xtreme. One for the memory books.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 31st, 2022, is “facetious.” Use the word “facetious” any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Facetious. What a wonderful word. Said in all sincerity. See what I did there? Not the least bit flippant. Another wonderful word. Lol.

It’s been every bit a Monday today. I’m outta stamps. Woe is me. Ha! If that’s the least of my worries, I’m cooking with gas. So much to unpack.

Unpack… ugh the bane of my existence. When in work-speak, someone says let’s unpack that I think gag me with a spoon. How facetious! Lots of work-speak comes off that way to where there are memes abound and someone could write a book of nothing but facetious work related quips. Think The Office or American Auto. Hahaha 🤣.

Alrighty. That’s all she wrote. Until next time.

As always more to come.

#JusJoJan~1/30/22

Thanks Linda for hosting. And thanks Jenny for the prompt. Take a look at her blog. You’ll be glad you did.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 30th, 2022, is “prepare.” Use the word “prepare” any way you’d like. Enjoy!

This reminds me of the Girl Scout motto. Be prepared. I took that to heart and I’ve been overly prepared my whole life. Compulsive one might say. And the sins of the mother went to my Lulu. Poor kid gets it from both of us. B is even more prepared than me.

Yes there is such a thing as being too prepared. Like for a test, then you freeze or blank out. Or when you wig out if you’re not home by a certain time to get ready for the next day. Finding the sweet spot is key.

And being able to let go (hey that was so yesterday’s #SoCS) if despite the best laid plans (of Mice and Men) your preparation was all for naught when life or fate tosses a monkey wrench into the works.

Alrighty off I go to prepare dinner. We skipped lunch and now everyone claims they’re starving. Good thing we planned the menu a full week in advance so I can get straight to cooking.

As always more to come.

#SLS ~ 1/30/22

Look 👀 HERE for the rules and ping back of #SLS. Today the prompt is songs featured in films that made the charts. I’m an 80s baby and John Hughes made a string of movies 🍿 that left an indelible impact on me and my friends. One of my favorite movies 🎥 of his is The Breakfast Club.

In May 1985, the Simple Minds song 🎶 Don’t You (Forget About Me) 🎶 from The Breakfast Club soundtrack made it to number-one (and their only number-one in the US). Songwriters: Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff.

To this day, when I hear those first notes, I see Judd Nelson’s criminal bad boy John Bender walking across the football field on his way home from detention. Raising his hand in an eff it salute.

More at the the wiki if you’re interested.

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Ooh, woah

Won’t you come see about me?
I’ll be alone, dancing you know it, baby
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out and
Love’s strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on
Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby

Don’t you forget about me
Don’t don’t don’t don’t
Don’t you forget about me

Will you stand above me
Look my way, never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down
Will you recognise me
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down, down

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Ooh, woah

Don’t you try to pretend
It’s my feeling we’ll win in the end
I won’t harm you or touch your defenses
Vanity, insecurity ah

Don’t you forget about me
I’ll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Going to take you apart
I’ll put us back together at heart, baby

Don’t you forget about me
Don’t don’t don’t don’t
Don’t you forget about me

As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
When you walk away
Oh will you walk away?
Will you walk on by?
Come on, call my name
Will you call my name?

I say:
La la la…

When you walk on by
And you call my name…

Sunday Reflections: A Week in Review ~ 1/30/22

Blink and we look back on another week in the hopper. Last Sunday was awful but that’s in our rearview mirror. Today will be glorious, so sayeth the people. I’m still riding the high of the endorphins from walking yesterday with my Lulu Belle. I feel better, not cured but better and that’s a start. Alrighty then, on with a roll call, then off the curbside.

Peace y’all. Until next time. Stay safe.

As always, more to come.

#SoCS and #JusJoJan ~1/29/22

Howdy 🤠 folks. Saturday has showed up on our doorstep yet again asking us to come out and play. Aaaah, the weekend. HERE are the rules and ping back of the final combo of #SoCS and #JusJoJan for 2022,because sure enough January is almost over. Without further ado, Linda writes ✍️ and I copy paste.

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “let go.” Write about the first thing that comes to mind when you think “let go.” Enjoy!

Let’s Go!

Close but no cigar. Let’s go is ever so slightly different than let go by more than an apostrophe. My first thought 💭 was let go and let God. I’ve said that often over the past two weeks. Hard to believe the sH!t show started on Monday January 17th. Time like hope that fickle b-word is conceptually weird to me.

But all’s well that ends well. Miracle upon miracle guess who’s up ⬆️ and walking? Yep 👍🏼 you’ve guessed it. How does one go from a wheelchair 🦼 to being mobile without any physical therapy and nothing but Anacin since we flushed the offending prescription? Yes, there was a bad reaction. For the brief time on the meds, things were legit scary 😟. But during the before and after … the jury is out.

I won’t elaborate here except to say sweet Lulu called it. She felt guilty about doubting too. But she was right. This is psychological warfare. Hard to let go of the anger over the malicious manipulation but forgiveness benefits the forgiver not the forgive-ee. Yep making up words again. Letting go. Feeling the release. Stress is lifting up, up, and away.

As always more to come.

#JusJoJan ~ 1/28/22

Thanks Linda for hosting and thanks Lakshmi for the prompt.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 28th, 2022, is “abscission.” Use the word “abscission” any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Oooohhhh. Homework. What does abscission mean? Pre google, I guessed remove oneself from the situation. I abscission from here you scoundrel!! Then I thought maybe abscission has something to do with voting. Sounds very legal-like. Well folks, I couldn’t have been more wrong. Per Oxford languages …

ab·scis·sion/abˈsiZHən/Learn to pronounce

noun BOTANY

  1. the natural detachment of parts of a plant, typically dead leaves and ripe fruit.”leaf abscission in trees”

Fun fact! Tomorrow here in good ole SATX, there is a fruit and nut tree giveaway at Nelson Wolff stadium 8 to noon or until the trees are all given away. One per household based on your San Antonio Water System (SAWS) bill address. This event was held twice yearly. Part of conservation efforts for my fair city. Last held in January of 2020, then cancelled due to the RONA but back again as a drive-through (almost contactless) event in 2022. B and I loved this as amatuer gardeners though truth be told, only one of the “free” trees ever survived and it never gave any peaches. We’ve only had luck with the trees we get from Fanick’s Nursery. Our oaks are mighty and the cypress is off the charts. The images that follow are from 2019. Why I didn’t take tree pictures is beyond me.

Well, that’s all she wrote. I’m glad to learn a new word and will work to add abscission into polite conversation. Happy Friday folks!!! Hope you have a good one!!!!

#JusJoJan ~1/27/22

Thanks Linda for hosting and thanks Kim for the prompt!!

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 27th, 2022, is “understanding.” Use the word “understanding” any way you’d like. Enjoy!

I can be clueless. Sometimes innocently enough and sometimes on purpose. I prefer to understand everything about anything. A true nosey Nelly but not a know-it-all. I’m nosey because I seek to understand. The proverbial question lady. I’m in a kerfuffle right now and some things defy explanation. Try as I might I can’t for the life of me understand why someone would refuse help. Pride I guess. Embarrassment perhaps. But if/when my time comes and God willing, I can afford it, I’m going to accept what I cannot change. Ahhhh. Letting go of what I can;t understand to move forward peacefully. Music cures all that ails ya. Yeah buddy!!

As always, more to come.

Thursday Thoughts ~ 1/27/22

I’ll try to be brief but no telling once I get going I might continue for days …

I decided to wear a dress today with long sleeves since it’s cold and tights because bare legs in this weather when we keep our thermostat at 65 is muy frio. I’m also wearing fuzzy socks. I have my Easterseals blanket/throw across my lap. I’m ready for battle. Charge!!!!! Haha!

Despite the debacle that was yesterday (MoMo officially withdrew from the assisted living space that could help her) and our employee meeting which went south with over 3K people in one forum grousing as we watched in various states of confusion. All I know is I’m not complaining. #blessedbeyondmeasure.

People need to shut their pie holes and leave politics out of our 2021 year end update. The mask mandate was struck down and some unvaccinated people expected immediate changes. Well guess what? A private company can make a mandate of its’ own. Hoping the voice of reason prevails and the policy remains ‘as is’ or even strengthens. And if you don’t like any of this, don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya. Buh bye!

Now to bring this back the goodness. Every morning for about two, maybe three weeks, I’m eating oatmeal for breakfast. I did this when I went into the office but at home I quit because princess doesn’t like the taste of microwave oatmeal and cooking oatmeal on the stove top is a pain in the ass.

I discovered my tea kettle is just the ticket. I heat my cup of water until it sings. I pour over my quick oats and blueberries, then gently stir. And wah-la! After about two minutes, tastes exactly like the cooked stuff that takes too long to make. My guess is the tea kettle water is beyond boiling (if there is such a thing). It’s why I don’t let the water go until it sings when making a cuppa (which I also do, today was lemon ginger). Otherwise I’d scald my mouth.

What’s the goodness you ask? Well have you ever been warmly dressed and ready for battle, with a cuppa hot lemon ginger tea, eating some delicious oatmeal with blueberries that are also warm and sort of pop when you bite them spreading the sweet juice around your tastebuds? If that’s not goodness, I don’t know what is.

Happy Thursday folks. Control what you can … yourself … and say ‘eff’ it to the remainder. Today is a great day because of Wordle and because I choose it.

As always, more to come.

#JusJoJan and #1linerWeds. 1/26/22

My TV-a-holic self was going quote a quip today but instead of sit-coms I watched dramas This is Us and New Amsterdam last night and was gutted. But damn I NEEDED a good cry. Very therapeutic just like writing this blog post. Or blasting tunes. I could’ve quoted from both shows but this is one liner doing double duty with #JusJoJan not a two liner. Tee he.

Okay mom, don’t let me keep you.

Jack Pearson at his mom’s eulogy

Out of context, this may not seem emotional but trust me it was. Everyone deals with trauma their own way. If we’re lucky, we find our tribe.

As always more to come.

This post was written for #JusJoJan. Thanks Linda!
