Thanks Linda for hosting and thanks Lakshmi for the prompt.
Your prompt for JusJoJan January 28th, 2022, is “abscission.” Use the word “abscission” any way you’d like. Enjoy!
Oooohhhh. Homework. What does abscission mean? Pre google, I guessed remove oneself from the situation. I abscission from here you scoundrel!! Then I thought maybe abscission has something to do with voting. Sounds very legal-like. Well folks, I couldn’t have been more wrong. Per Oxford languages …
ab·scis·sion/abˈsiZHən/Learn to pronounce
noun BOTANY
- the natural detachment of parts of a plant, typically dead leaves and ripe fruit.”leaf abscission in trees”
Fun fact! Tomorrow here in good ole SATX, there is a fruit and nut tree giveaway at Nelson Wolff stadium 8 to noon or until the trees are all given away. One per household based on your San Antonio Water System (SAWS) bill address. This event was held twice yearly. Part of conservation efforts for my fair city. Last held in January of 2020, then cancelled due to the RONA but back again as a drive-through (almost contactless) event in 2022. B and I loved this as amatuer gardeners though truth be told, only one of the “free” trees ever survived and it never gave any peaches. We’ve only had luck with the trees we get from Fanick’s Nursery. Our oaks are mighty and the cypress is off the charts. The images that follow are from 2019. Why I didn’t take tree pictures is beyond me.

Well, that’s all she wrote. I’m glad to learn a new word and will work to add abscission into polite conversation. Happy Friday folks!!! Hope you have a good one!!!!
I fear it might not belong in polite conversation. LOL
