If it smells good, would you eat it? Or is your health worth more than $1.78 😂

This was posted to FB four years ago and no I didn’t save the applesauce.

On Sunday, Lulu made blueberry muffins from scratch vs. a boxed mix … a healthy verson with applesauce instead of oil … they are yummy! but she put the applesauce back in the pantry instead of the refrigerator … I just found it now … wonder if it is too late to save … smells ok … anyone know .. cheapo Jill wants to save $1.78 😉

JDub’s Review of Everything You Want Me To Be by Mindy Mejia

I really wanted to like this book.  A ripped from the headlines mystery.  Relatable enough characters.  Good theme and messages.  Set in Minnesota which ironically is where Lulu and I will be spending a few days later this month.  I hear tell Minnesota is the Broadway of the mid-west and we already have tickets to two shows. Woot!

Back to the book.  I will not spoil anything for you.  No play by-play.  Other than to generically say the set up is quick alternating chapters told from the point of view of 3 main characters.  Del = small town sheriff, Hattie = teenager, high school student and actress and Peter = English teacher.  Other bit players float in and out.

Here are a few key quotes that resonated with me:

“Silence ends an argument quicker than words”

“Every book changes you in some way, whether it’s your perspective on the world or how you define yourself in relation to the world”

“The Internet’s not full of made up people, Mom.  They’re real too.” well the jury is still out on that one <J-Dub>

Ultimately the story was just okay in my opinion.  I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars.  I still recommend the read after this is no longer in the express collection. Onto Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica

As always, more to come.

In Memoriam – DGW

11-03-1965 to 07-02-2006 = 40 years

07-02-2006 to 07-02-2017 = 11 years

He’d be 51

Had he lived.

And oh how he lived!

When he was alive.

Until he died.

On a Sunday.

Just like today.

Time.

Feels like yesterday …

And forever ago.

Just the same.

But nothing is the same.

EVER!

The stage was set; on that day:

Sights = Gray skies and rain.

Sounds = Phone ringing, mother wailing, sirens in the distance then getting closer. Louder. Shrill. Retching.

Feelings = Agony, disbelief, doubled over, hands on knees, out of breath, sobbing.

What? Died in his father’s arms.

How? During a coughing spell which caused artery to rupture, he bled to death in seconds.

Why? Because. The tattoo devil on her shoulder. No reason.

Pleading.

Let’s begin again in the hopes of a different ending.

Not how life works.

Unfortunately.

Life. Unpredictable. One plays the hand he is dealt.

Today (everyday) we remember Billy Bob’s baby brother.  His favorite color was yellow.  He loved to read weird stuff … Robert Heinlien, Hunter S. Thompson.  He was outdoorsy.  Lol.  Not really.  Sort of.  He did hunt and fish.  He loved guns.  His costuming was legendary.  Spent money he didn’t have on things he didn’t need.  He bought a sewing machine to make chaps.  Who the hell wears chaps?  Cowboy DGW that’s who. Haha.  He only used that machine once but oh how he had to have it.  He smoked and drank too much only to quit before starting again.  He was irritatingly lazy and almost always late.  Self-centered. Momma’s boy. Vain. He was fallible in his humanity yet in our memories he is blame free.  Perfection. Gone too soon.

May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

Amen.

Whenever I hear White Zombie or Alice in Chains, I think of you.  Rock on.  We miss you broham.  Billy Bob is lost without you.
