Jim give us the prompts Around/Down/Sideways/Up. I feel like that a lot y’all. Today especially. Happy heavenly birthday to D. We celebrate his dash 11/3/65 – 7/2/16 with our parish turkey bingo. Gone too soon, that’s for sure. B hasn’t got over losing his brother yet as if he’s supposed. There are no rules regarding grief except that there are no rules.
Boy did I have options. My first thought was Stay by Rihanna Writer(s): Justin Parker, Mikky Ekko. A moving ballad with lovely piano and the plea … around and around and around we go. Then I moved on to Bad Day by Daniel Powter. This song had both down and around. Finally landing on If I Die Young by The Band Perry – Writer Kimberly Perry.
Before the video, here’s more about the song and meaning behind the lyrics:
The meaning of the song is simple … it’s about making the most of whatever time you are given, whether it’s 2 years or 20 years. … “Whatever time we’re given will be absolutely enough as long as we make the most of it” ~ Kimberly Perry

If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in a river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Uh oh, uh oh
Lord make me a rainbow, I’ll shine down on my mother
She’ll know I’m safe with you when she stands under my colors, oh,
And life ain’t always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain’t even grey, but she buries her baby
The sharp knife of a short life, oh well
I’ve had just enough time
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
The sharp knife of a short life, oh well
I’ve had just enough time
And I’ll be wearing white, when I come into your kingdom
I’m as green as the ring on my little cold finger,
I’ve never known the lovin’ of a man
But it sure felt nice when he was holdin’ my hand,
There’s a boy here in town, says he’ll love me forever,
Who would have thought forever could be severed by…
…the sharp knife of a short life, oh well?
I’ve had just enough time
So put on your best, boys, and I’ll wear my pearls
What I never did is done
A penny for my thoughts, oh, no, I’ll sell ’em for a dollar
They’re worth so much more after I’m a goner
And maybe then you’ll hear the words I been singin’
Funny when you’re dead how people start listenin’
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Uh oh (uh, oh)
The ballad of a dove (uh, oh)
Go with peace and love
Gather up your tears, keep ’em in your pocket
Save ’em for a time when you’re really gonna need ’em, oh
The sharp knife of a short life, oh well
I’ve had just enough time
So put on your best, boys, and I’ll wear my pearls.
Here are the rules and ping back.
One of my favorite songs. Love the video, too. 🙂

Glad you liked it! I feel the same way but after learning the back story, I’m not so weepy when I hear it.

It reminds me of a Viking funeral, sad but very loving. Nice choice Jill.

At first it seems sad until the songstress explains the meaning is contentment with your life 💕. Thanks for dropping by.
