On Halloween B ran me up to Walmart to get some allergy medicine. In his truck. Not on his feet. I felt clarification was required because the verb ‘ran” could be either and much more.
He didn’t want me to go by myself after dark. The trip was basically in and out but he still was concerned for my welfare. How sweet! He asks me “do you think the Halloween candy is on sale yet” because once many many moons ago we were in Walmart the morning after Halloween where all the candy was half off. He has been hoping for a repeat every since that happy accidental day. Despite knowing better, we made a quick detour to the candy display and while not on sale, we’d couldn’t resist this lovely assortment.

And lo and behold within the Halloween variety packages, there where the same mixtures in a Christmas theme. And that is where my mind took me when I read what the follows:
Friday’s here! And that means it’s time for your Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. Halloween’s over–have you heard Christmas music yet? Ads? They’re coming, sure as Santa is. Here’s your prompt for this week:
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “nuts.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!
Awww Nuts! Seems like Christmas selling begins earlier each year. We have hallo-thanks-mas around these parts. The back of our store has a Christmas corner set up since October that will move front and center shortly. Somehow Thanksgiving is smushed in between. Smushed isn’t a word but smashed is a word. I have to ask are they all smashed or just nuts?
Okay let’s go nuts! How’d I get this far away from what brought me here … the prompt? The first thing I thought of was world history. General Nuts! Whose name escapes me but in memorizing for the test, that’s what us kids called him. I know this is stream but I peeked (or looked in a furtive manner) at the wiki just to verify I had not gone nuts mis-remembering and here you go. Seriously Meredith Gray, check out the link to learn more about General Anthony Clement “Nuts” McAuliffe. And after you’ve soaked up a history lesson, follow the link to the fun-land Linda G Hill built. I guarantee you’ll be glad you did and we’ll leave the light on for you too Tom Bodett.
As always, more to come.
Sorry that you needed to get some medicine on Halloween – hope the candy helped ;-). That’s awesome that D wanted to get a repeat on the candy deals. My jaw dropped when you said that the Christmas candy was there in the same aisle!?! We have the same thing going on here – all the holidays smashed together. They say we have 6 fewer shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. It’s NUTS, I agree! I vaguely remember General Nuts (history is fascinating to me, but remember enough to recall the facts, etc. wasn’t my ‘thing’ back in school). I hope you have a great week!!!

Not quite but almost. We had a cold front that lasted two days then tropical 80s but tomorrow we may be back in business with normal temps for the season.

We don’t get any trick or treaters here, but I bought myself a Butterfinger, just because.

Just because is the best reason ever 😊

This is a perfect example of why I buy what I like. I over buy every year when it’s BOGO leading up to Halloween. I have left overs until Christmas. Hah! And I got the Tom Bodett reference. 😉

Those Halloween candies are too tempting so this year we gave away the leftovers. My husband stashed a few because he was nibbling on them today. Me, I’m being good, don’t want to start.

Very hard once you get started. I pledge not to buy any more this year.

I love the story of how Gen. McAuliffe came about his sobriquet…

Minis don’t count at all. It’s the same effort to unwrap them as a full treat – all that work wipes out the calories.

I also wrote about McAuliffe, great minds do something, but I forgot what that is.

Oh good. I’ll be there to check it out before the day is through. I should find again the entire “great minds” quote one of these days.

I’m a big believer that minis only count as 1/10 of a candy so they’re hardly even a treat. 😉 We used to buy half price candy the day after Halloween for a Christmas parade float – an entire shopping cart full!

Now that’s a good idea to stock up on 1/2 priced candy! And I agree minis aren’t even a treat 😉
