No More Polls

… for now.  I originally had a plan to add one poll a day from 12/1 to 12/25 but I have run out of things to ask.  At least I made it to 12/9.  Perhaps I should have gone with every other day but such is life.

You’d have thought I could have come up with something considering I have squandered away my day.  Ugh!  I need to have plans or structure goes out the door.  No structure = extreme sloth in my case.

Wait! I googled sloth and nope, not quite there.  Lazy is only an element of sloth.  Here is the entire description:

“a sin that believes in nothing, cares for nothing, seeks to know nothing, interferes with nothing, enjoys nothing, hates nothing, finds purpose in nothing, lives for nothing, and remains alive because there is nothing for which it will die.”

Today has been a day of learning new things.  YaY day!

I have been reading and in #SoCS someone wrote that music was their liquor.  Me too!  I am old school iTune and therefore have a mix of Pony and Lulu’s music with mine that has been playing on a loop all day.  Maybe that is how time got away from me.  I got caught up on quite a bit actually so maybe there is something to show for my efforts.  I am in a swirl of what the hell time is it even? Feels like nighttime and not  almost 3 pm.

Hmmm, but wait!  I still have time.  I am outta here peeps.  Turning off all electronics. Let’s see where this leads shall we.

As always, more to come.

Christmas Poll #7

Eggnog or Wassail?

Eggnog with a shot of wild turkey for me please.  Only time I will drink these days and I limit to one … a very small one.  Though a nice Baileys and I would forgo said eggnog.  And, I will never drink just eggnog by itself.  It needs the kick in my opinion.

I have never tried wassail but I hear wassail can have a wine base.  I use to love my wine but now I take medication that no longer allows me to partake. I would have to try the hot cider version which actually sounds quite nice.

As always, more to come.

Christmas Poll #6

Do you or don’t you send Christmas cards?

A product of my environment, I only sporadically sent Christmas cards until I quit and this was way before my cranky phase.  Now that I am back in the holiday spirit, I still do not send.  I am lazy.  I admit it.  And my quirks kick into hyper-overdrive.  You can’t forget someone or be hurt that someone forgot you if you do not participate.  I think that is called self-preservation.  When I try to participate, I overthink and second guess everything.  This goes for buying gifts too.  Talk about your proverbial deer in the headlights.  Look it up, you’ll see me 🙂

Mom would spend hours prepping cards with a personal note, addressing, and then mailing cards but only to people she would not see.  For whatever reason, her tradition did not include people you actually spent time with over the holidays.  I have no idea if that had anything to do with the cost of postage or what.  It was just her way.

I also remember she kept a box or two or three of chocolate mints and a pair or two of socks wrapped just in case someone dropped by and/or we need a real quick gift for someone unexpected.  Small tokens really,  just the thought that counts.

As always, more to come.

Christmas Poll #3

Do you have a favorite Christmas meal?

We usually did a repeat of  a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and dressing but we may have added a Christmas ham.  Always so many desserts to create a festive sampler plate.

The year we lost my dad, the four of us ate a venison, mashed potatoes and green bean feast.  Sad but not sad if that makes any sense.  Daddy would have loved the venison.

Now we no longer really have a traditional Christmas meal.  Well wait … that’s not true.  Christmas Eve is always chili and tamales with seven layer and hot Rotel cheese dips.  Oh and cocktail smokies, fancy cheeses and crackers.  Still more desserts than you can shake a stick at.

Where did that idiom come from?  Who shook the first stick at anyone? I could Google it but I am burning daylight as the Duke would have said.  I’ve got places to go and people to see.

Wishing everyone a blessed Sunday.

As always, more to come.

Christmas Poll #2

Favorite Christmas carol and why?

I’ll go first and hopefully I won’t hear crickets.  Ever wonder where that expression came from?  Crickets are noisy buggers.  Yet hearing crickets means awkward silence.  Hmmm.  Somebody got it wrong.  If you hear crickets it’s like a loud cacophony.  Oh look at me, using big words.  I’ve been just itching to use cacophony in a sentence.  Anyhoo, just know that your comments are addictive!  Better than almost everything.

Out of the rabbit hole and she’s back!

My favorite carol used to be Joy to the World but now it is the Little Drummer Boy.  Why?  Because what’s not to love?  Here is an especially good version by Pentatonix.

Christmas Poll

Angel or Star as your tree topper and why?

I’ll start … no idea why but it’s an angel!

IMG_3367

We’d have to dig up my parents from their graves to ask why.  Oh how morbid J-Dub!!  Shame on you for ruining an otherwise delightful poll.  This post is supposed to be sweet and sentimental.

And it is sweet and sentimental!  Why an angel? I simply followed suit, no questions asked. My mother gave the above angel to Billy Bob and me in 1984.  Such a sweet expression on her face.  Calming and protective.  And we’ve used her every year since.  Even during the cranky years of wah-wah feel sorry for yourself and get over it already.  I am fairly certain we use the angel because an angel appeared to Mary.  The Star of Bethlehem may have shown the way but Gabriel came first.

Really begging for comments here people.  Let me know your preference if you have one.  The shortest poll you ever took.

As always, more to come.
