Jim tells us, this week the theme is Heavenly Bodies, Planets, Moon, Sun, Stars suggested by King Ben’s Grandma. Oh the places we could go. I immediately thought of Children of the Sun by Billy Thorpe. I even broke my own rule of no song over 5 minutes long. My freshman year, we played this song on a loop. Later when I was at SAC and they had a contest to pick intro music for the remodeled Planetarium, my Astronomy class nominated this song. It didn’t win but it’s still a favorite to me.
People of the Earth can you hear me? Came a voice from the sky on that magical night And in the colors of a thousand sunsets They traveled through the world on a silvery light The people of the Earth stood waiting Watching as the ships came one by one Setting fire to the sky as they landed Carrying to the world Children Of The Sun All at once came a sound from the inside Then a beam made of light hit the ground Everyone felt the sound of their heartbeat Every Man - Every Woman - Every Child They passed the limits of imagination Through the doors - to a world - of another time On the journey of a thousand lifetimes With the Children Of The Sun - They started their climb No more gravity, nothing holding them down Floating endlessly, as their ship leaves the ground through the walls of time - at the speed of light Fly the crystal ships on their celestial flight On their celestial flight.
A great song. Mt. SAC community college?

I live just a few miles from SAC. That is where my daughters got their AA degrees.

What a very small world. I got my AA degree from there too. I really loved it. And I felt like I got personal attention. The classes were smaller than UTSA.

My girls liked it there . One went on to UCLA and the other to a private school.

This is a new one to me, Jill, and after looking it up I realize why. It was released in 1979 when I was a new mom and in a very chaotic time of my life. Funny how we can let music escape us at times like that.

Very true and that in other instances, in a less chaotic time, where we remember the music. The summer of 1979 was idyllic for me. New beginnings. Anything was possible.

I love this song! Its one of the ones that I almost used. I’m not surprised at all that you know this song, even though most people I know have never heard of it. 🎶💃🏼

You had such a good idea for the prompt. There were so many options. This song we would call a one hit wonder. Even though Billy did other stuff. The kids that I ran around with when this song came out, all thought we were being edgy. This song was an anthem for a while. 😎

I hadn’t heard this before Jilly but it was very cool. I can understand why you guys nominated it to be the theme song for the planetarium opening ☺️💕
