#SLS ~ 7/4/21

Jim prompts us with American music which is any song played by an American group. I thought I’d go with something that had America in the title but surprisingly the first two tunes I came across were written by groups who hailed for England. Then I looked for songs that mentioned 50 states. Meh. Not feeling it.

I decided to surf around and found a hidden gem. This article about 25 Famous Musicians with San Antonio Roots was calling me. Pick one of us, pick one of us … But how do I choose? Eyes closed and virtual dart board. Doug Sahm formed the Sir Douglas Quintet with Augie Meyers. More at the wiki. Without further ado, here is “She’s About a Mover” songwriter Doug Sahm.

Hey, hey!
Well, she was a-walkin’ down the street, lookin’ fine as she could be.
Hey, hey!
Well, you have love and conversation,
Whoa, yeah, what I say!
Hey, hey!
She’s about a mover.
She’s about a mover.
She’s about a mover.
She’s about a mover.
Hey, hey, hey, hey,
What I say!
She’s about a mover.
She’s about a mover.
Well, you know I love you, baby.
Whoa, yeah, what I say!
Hey, hey!Well, she strolled on up to me and said,
“Hey, big boy, what’s your name?”
Hey, hey!

  1. This is perfect Jill, an American rock band, formed in San Antonio in 1964. I don’t really know all that much about this group, but I love this song and I hope that you enjoy the Independence Day holiday.
