Thursday Thoughts ~ 2/11/21

We just found out that the dad of one of Pony’s kindergarten classmates passed away. The dad was only 56 years old, leaving behind his widow (wife of 35 years) and three children in their 30s/20s. For a brief time, our paths crossed before going separate directions. Yet hearing this brings right back memories from yesteryears. Field trips to the zoo and class gatherings. We’re deeply saddened by his passing.

Everyone was wondering if Covid was the cause of death but it was not. The family did not wish to disclose details all over the Internet but in talking with a friend of a friend, we learned he had surgery back in November for what should have been a very treatable illness but the surgery went south. He battled an infection for two months afterwards, never recovering.

I don’t wish to go against their wishes which is why I stop here. Generic this could be anybody. Had it been Covid that’s a different matter to me. No stopping when it comes to Covid or any other public health issue. I’m not trying to be morbid or nosy in wanting to know the sometimes gory details. We don’t know what we don’t know which is why I ask. I want to know mainly to avoid a similar fate.

We have a friend who recently had and beat Covid. When one of the many responses to his post alerting us to his recovery was “how did you get it?” his reply was “I dunno man, wish I did”. No PM me for details to be discreet. Only I dunno. I didn’t write back anything … FB is definitely not the place. Instead I thought to myself how the hell does he not know???? With contact tracing being the utmost importance, he should know. Anyone he came into contact with should know and he should’ve been informed by the spreader.

Again not trying to be nosy. But that’s info that should be shared don’t you think? I mean c’mon. Or maybe I am stepping into something that truly is nunya (our shorthand for none of your business).

I have to wonder how many people, living in parallel universe, are keeping things to themselves to protect their privacy when disclosing the info could help us all? I wish there was a reliable source of the truth. What works, what doesn’t, etc… Ultimately I prefer to hear directly from my fellow humans who have gone through it. Disclaimer it up if you have to because we are all different and experiences WILL vary but for the love of God say something!!

Alrighty now, lemme let ya go.

As always, more to come.

  1. I feel badly for the man who died. Proof once again that the worst place to be when you’re sick is in the hospital. There are just too many “cooties” flying around and people pick up infections really easily.

I saw the other day that a 116-year-old French nun, one of the oldest people in the world, beat Covid-19.

Back in the day, they would do contact tracing when someone caught VD, but compared to Covid, that’s a relatively easy thing to track. Someone will usually know a person they’ve had sex with, but with Covid, it could literally come from just about anyone…

    1. Us too. He was such a kind soul. I avoid hospitals as much as I can for that very reason even before Covid. Too many cooties!!

I saw the news about the nun and was heartened. Then in the next article a 50 year old with a very mild case of Covid got a blood clot attributed to the virus and died.

This whole thing with all its randomness and variance is just scary.

  2. I agree that contact tracing should be done, but If someone wants to keep stuff quiet, then don’t make an announcement. If you do make an announcement since you are trying for attention, then spill your guts.

  3. Could be a person passing in the street, even masked and socially distanced. That’s the trouble with viruses, they don’t have a home address. I fear that everyone will be sadly disappointed when Covid-19 and derivatives are still around in 50 years, 500 years etc. Keep smiling everybody!

  4. It’s very difficult isn’t Jilly, my mother in law died of covid, we don’t know where she caught it, while she was out? At the Drs, maybe her other son or granddaughter bought it into her house? while she was out to a church dinner before lockdown? or even a neighbour, or even in hospital after she was taken in after a stroke?
Our middle son caught it at work, he works at an airport and is in contact with people from all over, the PPE was suspect then, it’s better now…..I understand you Jilly 💜💜💜

    1. I’m very sorry for your loss. May the perpetual light shine upon your mother in law.

I hope your middle son is through the worst of it.

I think I’m looking for answers when there aren’t many. And what’s out there is often confusing.

  5. It is believed my nephew got covid from a coworker. They both had masks on while working. He was pretty sick! He is in college and still lives at home. My BIL and sister contracted it from him and were very sick. My BIL was in the hospital with pneumonia. My niece was positive and asymptomatic. They are all negative now and back to work but the coworker doesn’t know where he contracted it. My sister works at a preschool and maybe she contracted it and not knowingly had it and spread it. But the time frame doesn’t seem quite right. The problem with covid is there are too many variables and not enough known about it to pinpoint anything even with tracing. Most of the contact tracing isn’t happening anyway. Pray the vaccine works and that they come up with a solution for the variant soon. 🙂

    1. I’m glad everyone is back to negative. I’ve heard the contact tracing isn’t happening because the volume of new cases keeps growing. Then I hear we’re trending down. You’re right that there are too many variables. I’m getting shot #2 on 3/1 and will continue my masking, social distancing, or staying home.

      1. That is the way to do it. The UK variable showed up in Jacksonville today. Only 65 and older are eligible to get the shot at this time here in Florida. It is a joke! So many more could be getting vaccinated but our lame Governor sucks! So glad that you are on your way! 🙂

  6. Agree with the above. I might tell some friends and my family of course, but it’s not the biz of random ppl on the internet. I will never meet 99% of my blog readers, and even my FB list is full of ppl I won’t ever see in person…

  7. Given the extremely low likelihood of anyone I know through social media ever going anywhere I go, I would not be sharing. If I were to get the virus, I’d leave it to the medical establishment to spread the word. If I’d been to three places, they might be able to figure out where I got it and discretely notify people I may have spread it to. If I post that I was at Tom’s Tire Shop, Joe’s Diner and the grocery store on Main St, I’m not helping anyone.
