Sunday Reflection: Quick Memory ~ 2/28/21

I’ve been praying a lot lately. Seems like I found my way back home after a momentary lapse. Today I stumbled across a memory from FB. Here is what I wrote six years ago ‘on this day’. Two pics from my days in grade school at St. Margaret Mary’s… I have met a lot of special people in my life, but I think the folks I went to grade school with were, and still are some of the best…

As always, more to come.

#SLS ~ 2/28/21

Jim prompts us with Breeze/Cloud/Sky/Wind. Tons of good songs using those words. How can I choose but one? Well since I’ve been listening to my Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, “Spirit in the Sky” Writer: Norman Greenbaum has become an earworm. Guess I’ll stick with it. Here is an interesting backstory for the song from Norman himself.

When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that’s the best
When I lay me down to die
Goin’ up to the spirit in the sky
Goin’ up to the spirit in the sky
That’s where I’m gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that’s the best

Prepare yourself you know it’s a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He’s gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky
Gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky
That’s where you’re gonna go when you die
When you die and they lay you to rest
You’re gonna go to the place that’s the best

Never been a sinner. I never sinned
I got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He’s gonna set me up with
The spirit in the sky
Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky
That’s where I’m gonna go when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I’m gonna go to the place that’s the best
Go to the place that’s the best

Saturday Reflections ~ 2/27/21

I reflect on Thursdays, sometimes Fridays, and every Sunday but today I decided to reflect on a Saturday. Actually this might be more of a ramble than a reflection.  I have COVID grief y’all. Maybe its own health crisis!! See this post by M. Oniker.

We’re exhausted y’all. Seriously. My dear workmate said the same thing as we met over Zoom yesterday … something is off. This week sucked. Even worse than Snowmageddon the week before.

My guess is that subsciously we feel a life altering anniversary sneakily approaching.  Almost one year ago to the day … 3/6/2020 – 3/6/2021, Spring Break.  How’s that for remembering the dash! And this dash wasn’t a well lived life but a year that felt like forever in a dream.

Lulu had taken midterms, heading home with the BF. We planned a staycation opting instead to take a better vacation for her graduation. Hindsight 20/20, we shouldn’t have waited.  Of course, we could’ve ended up as some of Rona’s first victims. Recently a friend told me she and the hubby got “it” during Spring Break 2020 in NOLA. They never said anything to anyone.  Simply quarantined at home until better.

We really didn’t understand a lot at the beginning. Masks work, don’t work, and then work again. Wash your groceries, now that’s silly. Oh-M-Gee.

I got the call to stay put.  No need to go back to the office as a temporary precaution. Better safe than sorry. Then blink!  Almost 95% of our workforce is working from home.

Will we ever go back?  In the last all-in meeting, our CEO announced instead of extending dates, he’ll just say until further notice. He gave assurances if we don’t feel safe, no one will be forced. Meanwhile our building has won awards for COVID safety and seems to be primed for more occupants once again.

Why do I think we’ll go back voluntarily in somewhat short order? Cuz ya know, the vaccine is here. Yeah buddy! We got our first dose.  Part two comes Monday. I feel safer already. Of course we still mask it up, distance, and wash our hands in sublime warm & soapy water.  I was a hand washer before.  That part is right up my alley.

Sadly, we only hear the worst of the worst. In reality, 2885 deaths out of 2 million Bexar county residents is very small. But for those whose loved ones died, there is little consolation.  One avoidable death is one too many.

This week I can add three more names to the list.  Which is probably the real reason this week sucked.  Losing all three in such a short span was shocking.  COVID is “by name” REAL not “anonymous never gonna kill me or my family” real.

For the families who lost their loved ones, may their memories be a blessing. Let the perpetual light shine upon them. QEPD!

As always, more to come.

#SoCS ~ 2/27/21

Here we go again. Yeah buddy! Time for #SoCS where the lovely Linda writes and I re-write Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “-sty.” Find a word that ends in “-sty” or use the word “sty.” Enjoy!

If you’d like to come along on this ride and see where the stream flows, here are your rules and ping back.

Hmm. Sty. Think, think, and think.

I have sty in my little eye.

I think that was a poem or nursery rhyme or I am #MSU = making stuff up. Mostly likely creating fiction. I have never ever had a sty. I wear glasses for a while now. In addition to my vision issues, I have allergy eyes that water like crazy but there are drops for that. OTC = over the counter not the crazy expensive prescription drops my eye doctor wanted me to use. Though where eyes are concerned, spare no expense. Fortunately the OTC is RX strength and was formerly prescription only. Funny how that works some times.

Oh wait! I remember now. I was originally thinking of I SPY with my little eye … something BLUE!

As a kid, I remember playing eye spy on every road trip. What a great way to keep the gang occupied. To keep us from getting testy or pesty or angsty or feisty or any other of the assorted sty ending words which mean irritated with having to sit in a car (in my case on the hump or the way, way back) for hours on end.

I have to wonder if kids these days even know what “the hump” is? Or the way, way back? Probably not. Like lots of things, those went the way of the dinosaur. Some times that’s a travesty but other times that brings the majesty of improving upon technology.

Alrighty fine folks. I have exhausted my use of sty. Here in a bit, I’m off to a stress filled Saturday of errands like I have not had in a long time. Fill up the tank, curb-side, post office, store return. Wish me luck.

As always, more to come.

#WATWB ~ 2/26/21

Can you know brokenness without being broken? Take a look at the video in this link. The answer is a resounding YES!!!

In the wake of the pandemic, my employer has sponsored a resiliency series. This story was one of the most recent offerings. A real feel-good example of not just surviving but thriving. I mentioned yesterday that I was struggling but today as I write this up for others to see, I am inspired. I hope you are too.

This month’s co-hosts, Shilpa GargSimon FalkDamyanti  Biswas, Lizbeth Hart and Eric Lahti welcome participants and encourage all to join in during future months. #WATWB is a blog hop on the last Friday of every month. Here are the intention and rules. In darkness, be light!

Thursday Thoughts ~ 2/25/21

I’m a bit emotional this week. I wish I could pinpoint why to help with coping. Mostly I pray. All the memories of growing up in the church come flooding back. From rote memory, the comforting hum of repeating soothing words calms me. But the feeling is temporary before the twisting gut churning pains are back. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

March 8th is the day. My appointment of February 15 pushed out three weeks. Hoping for some relief. I think I can make it that long. In the meantime, I’ll keep praying. In the good times too. Trying to cultivate a grateful heart.

As always, more to come.

Share Your World 🌎 ~ 2/23/21

Thanks Melanie for these “odd” basket 🧺 full of questions. Such fun 🤩. Here’s my two cents …

QUESTIONS: (an “odd” basket full today)

Have you ever ‘butt dialed” someone? (‘butt dialed’ means have you ever made a phone call that you weren’t aware of making, because the buttons on the phone got pushed by your sitting on them (in your pocket) OR having something in your handbag press against them?) Nope but my drunk 😵 sister-in-law did and that story went around the family faster than lightning. I won’t repeat it here in polite company.

If you were given 1000 acres of land, what would you do with it? Leave it as is.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen on-line recently? Since I’m easily amused, everything 😂

Have you ever eaten something off the floor? ‘5 second’ rule applies or not (the ‘5 second rule’ is that if you pick up the dropped food within a set time frame, it’s still ‘clean’ and you can safely eat it)? Yes.

GRATITUDE SECTION(always optional)

Feel free to share your gratitude with everyone in the form of a quote, a thought or an image.

I’m grateful we made it through Snowmageddon.
