Jim gives us PG (title of song must start with the letter P or G). After quickly ruling out “Papa Don’t Preach” by Madonna, I moved to the 60s picking “Get Together” written by Chester Powers. Here are some song facts. The version I chose for today was recorded by the Youngbloods. Hope you enjoy!
“Get Together”
Love is but a song we sing
Fear’s the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why
Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Some may come and some may go
He will surely pass
When the one that left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but a moment’s sunlight
Fading in the grass
Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
If you hear the song I sing
You will understand, listen
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It’s there at your command
Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
I said come on, people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now
Right now
Right now
It has been a while since I have heard this delightful tune! This was really good and brought back memories of my childhood: enjoy classics with my mom.

Very 60’s. Great choice. The version I know best was The Dave Clark Five.

The song has definitely been covered a bunch. I’ll check out the Dave Clark version.

They titled it “Everybody get together.”

Absolutely great song. If we could only act the words. I’m doing the smiling part but not everyone can see — mask you know? Just hope they see the twinkle in my eye.

Some people do act the words. I have seen more twinkling eyes in the last 9 months than ever before. 🙂

By far, theirs was the best cover. It’s been done a bunch of times, though. This is the album version, which I like best; the single version leaves out the guitar solo and a couple of choruses and fades at the end. Good pick!

Thanks John! Choosing between all those covers was hard. This version was the one I remember most.

I worked at my parish rectory on Sunday mornings, when they had all the religious programming on WLS and WCFL. One of them carried a show called Power Line, and they’d play this every week…

Great song Jill as this really brings back the 60s, the whole peace and love thing, which was my era.
