Time once again for #SoCS. Our host with the most, the lovely Linda G Hill writes and I rewrite “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “sharp.” Use it in any or all of its definitions. Have fun!” If you’d like to join in too, here are the rules and ping back.
My first thought was ZZ Top’s song “Sharp Dressed Man” but I’ve written about that before. Then I thought about the expression “sharp as a tack” but my stream stopped.
Hmm 🤔 think, think, think … tongue in my tail?!?!? “Taming of the Shrew” and Kate’s sharp tongue. We read these lines in drama class. For a Catholic school, the School Sisters of Notre Dame we’re pretty progressive in letting us perform the play considering the innuendo. Here’s the scene:
Petruchio: Come, come, you wasp, i’faith you are too angry.
Katherine: If I be waspish, best beware my sting.
Petruchio: My remedy is then to pluck it out.
Katherine: Ay, if the fool could find where it lies.
Petruchio: Who knows not where a wasp does wear his sting? In his tail.
Katherine: In his tongue.
Petruchio: Whose tongue?
Katherine: Yours, if you talk of tales, and so farewell.
Petruchio: What, with my tongue in your tail?
I’ve always been a lil sassy and sharp tongued myself. Usually as a defense mechanism. Anywho. That’s all she wrote for today. Happy Saturday everyone 🎉
Sassy and sharp tongued makes for a fun convo!

There’s a lot of cleverness in Shakespeare that people miss.

I agree. I appreciate it more now than in high school. Some of the lines while sassy went over my head.

They used that part from Shakespeare on an episode of “The Big Bang Theory.” ZZ-Top was my first thought for the prompt today too!

That was quite the leap for a Catholic school, but glad they were open-minded enough to allow classic Shakespeare into the classroom. Have a sharp and sassy weekend!

Thanks Mary! I have a few more examples of their very liberal ways. A big change from the Felician Sisters in grade school. I’m grateful for the experience.
