The prompt “jade” comes to us from MB courtesy of Linda G Hill’s #JusJoJan for 01/17/20.  I keep wanting to write 19!  Oh well.  Jade.  Thanks MB!  Awesome choice.

Think, think, and think!!!

My first thought was Brooke Shields.  Why?  She played a character named Jade in Endless Love.   I can’t recall if Blue Lagoon was before or after Endless Love  but both movies were controversial.  I saw both back in the day and promptly forgot the plots.  I only remember they caused a hub-bub.  Well that and Pretty Baby.

I have to wonder if by today’s standards, there’d be the same attention.  Likely not.  And I have no plans to re-watch any of the three films above to find out.  Though thanks to technology, I could likely find them easily.  But I won’t.  Okay Jilly!  Move along.

Jade the mineral has metaphysical properties.  Supposedly.  I know people may look at me sideways when I go into crystal mode.  Think “Man in the Moon” Jim Carrey portrayal of Andy Kaufman.  He sought alternative treatment with crystals and unfortunately still passed away at the very young age of 35.

Now I’m not saying crystals can cure cancer when I say they have healing properties.  But I do believe jade and the like have healing properties all the same.  Even if that is just emotional relief.  Besides I am becoming desperate.   Willing to try anything.  Next thing you know I will be selling you a bill of goods on essential oils aromatherapy.  LOL 🙂

If anything, jade is pretty.  I like pretty things.  Look at this pretty kitty with jade eyes.  Now if that doesn’t lower your blood pressure, well don’t know what will.

Now for our musical interlude.

As always, more to come.

  1. “Pretty Baby” was 1978, “Blue Lagoon” was 1980, and “Endless Love” was 1981. Brooke was born in 1965, so you can do the math. And no, no one would bat an eye today. And when she stopped growing, she was 6’0″, or as a woman I worked with who was the same height said, 5’12”.

    1. I think they’d blink a lot more today than they would back then. Back then it was “art”. Today the kerfuffle would be much greater. I doubt if Pretty Baby could be done today with such a young actress. Filming started on it in 1976.

I don’t think much of Brooke was actually visible in the other two. Endless Love used a body double. Blue Lagoon managed to keep her covered with her signature long hair and “artfully arranged napkins” as one critic put it. There was a lot of careful posing and glue and clear tape involved. You did see her costar, Chris Atkins, briefly in the full frontal but he was 18 at the time. That got it rated R.

Zeffirelli did Endless Love and the best movie version of Romeo and Juliet ever produced. It was rated R because of a fraction of a second of Olivia Hussey’s nipple and a couple seconds of Romeo’s (Leonard Whiting) rear. Neither one could go see the movie without a parent because she was 13 and he was 15. I was only 18 myself.

I was gobsmacked by the production. It affected me so strongly, my gf at the time was worried about why I was acting so subdued afterward.

      1. Thanks for your perspective Fred. I’ve not seen that version of Romeo and Juliet though I’ve always been drawn to that story line. It’s good to be gobsmacked some times. I love movies that make me feel deeply.
