Hello darkness my old friend …
Wait! What?
Well she said silent/silence didn’t she?
Good morning fines folks of bloglandia. Time once again for #SoCS where the lovely Linda G Hill provides a prompt then we proceed to sit down with pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and let the words spill from our unique/quite creative brains on to physical or virtual page.
And yep, she said silent/silence. We can use one of both. Have fun!
My mind doing what my mind does went to Simon and Garfunkel’s classic song. “The Sound of Silence” That’s the stuff. But how can silence have a sound? If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Heady stuff for this Saturday huh? The answer is no. Now I’ve thought about this quite a bit. There is only sound when someone is around it hear it. Whadda you think?
I’m surprised I answered that for myself. More often than not I sit … on the fence … in analysis paralysis. But not last night … having dinner with my familia aka the brain trust. Our conversation flows in a myriad of directions. We were anything but silent.
My did we laugh y’all. My did I need to laugh. And I might even repeat a funny but way off color joke if I didn’t think you’d think less of me … if you even think of me that id … because I’m not the sun. id was not a typo y’all. My flow went with id instead of is as a Freudian slip. Wasn’t Freud the guy with id, ego and superego?
Go back to silent/silence Jilly!
Okay. I’m thinking about joining up with a group one of these Saturday mornings for walking meditation. It’s FREE. A perk of working downtown was finding out about this FREE family fun in my own back yard.
The thing is one has to be completely silent. I am not sure I can do that. While I am introverted and appreciate silence certain activities spark my mental activity which in turn makes we wanna shout … kick my heels up and shout … or just speak … no don’t speak … I’m pretty sure I could sit in total silence but walk in total silence? Nope. I’d either be kicked out or hushed. Ssshhh.
Moving on …
I’m off to find something to wear during a conference next week. I’m going to Kansas City … Kansas City here I come … I’ve been so lax in wardrobe at work lately that none of my more business casual stuff fits.
Sacribleu that sneaks up on you when you wear only the same handful of outfits and totally sloth out in large over-sized house dresses every weekend. Either that or I’m dying. 😦 … I do go that quickly from zero to 180. It’s a curse of a vivid non-silent mind.
Now I’m FIN. If you made it to the end and would like to join in, follow this link to the land of Oz aka #SOCS.
Cue music … As always, more to come.
Ooh, I LOVE “The Sound of Silence.” What a great song!!

This was a fun meander, Jill. Go be one of the crazy (not crazy) little women in KC – enjoy!

They got some crazy little women there, but I don’t suppose you’re gonna get you one.
Another good song on this theme: ’til Tuesday’s “Voices Carry.”

Love the videos of course!
I don’t think I could be totally silent on a walk with others. I tend to chatter to everyone, or even out loud to myself.
Hey, Kansas City! That is a really awesome city, and we’ve been there several times. My daughter & family live there! Hope you get to do a little sight seeing while you’re there. 🙂

That was a fun post! So many comments I can think of to make, especially since I’m still in SOC mode. I went to the same song. The sound of silence for me is the ringing in my ears which I don’t notice until it’s silence. I had to chuckle at “analysis paralysis.” Been there often, like if a tree falls in the woods it would make vibrations and that’s what sound is, right? vibrations? But it depends on how you define sound or hearing…. blah, blah, blah. I have enjoyed walking meditation in the past. Focusing on my footsteps is more interesting than just sitting, so it was easier for me. I hope you like it. 🙂

Ooohhh you make me think. Even with vibrations we’d have to be close enough to feel. Ah the senses. I’ll post about the walking meditation if I go. I might just try yoga.
