#SoCS for 5/4/19 ~ “fall from the sky”

Good morning everyone.  Time once again for #SoCS.  What a way to cap off the week!  Here is what our lovely host Ms. Linda G Hill has given us:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “fall from the sky.” Write about anything that falls from the sky–real, imagined, or idiomatic. Have fun!

When I saw this yesterday, I thought to myself … self you’re going to write some poetry or a flash fiction piece.  I mean c’mon with that set up “fall from the sky” vivid imagery will surely to flow.

But this is #SoCS and there are rules.  Plus there are my extra add ons like using the timer.  And poetry or flash fiction, well they take work.  Can’t just throw something out there and expect the piece to be good.  Good takes work.  Better takes more work. And Best takes even more work!  Are you picking up what I’m laying down?

Recently I entered a contest.  I threw my story out there in a day.  I was more interested in getting to the requisite number of words than being good.  Then there is this process to write and edit and rewrite and revise and edit again and polish polish polish until the words are all sparkly and shiny and the peoples … well the peoples they want to read your story.  Well I NEVER do that.  I have zero patience for revision.  Stream of consciousness does not call for this extra step anyway.  My words, well they might as well “fall from the sky”  and with that we are back!

You know what else falls from the sky?  Turkeys.  This classic episode appeared on October 30, 1978 during the inaugural season for WKRP in Cincinnati.  I have written about this episode before but I am doing so again since turkeys “falling from the sky” was the very first thing that came to mind with I read the prompt.

You guys should know me by now.  Poetry?  my attempts are lame.  My category #FlashFiction has been dormant for a while now.  And truth be told, my flash was always based on a true story.  As is this turkey drop, only the turkeys were thrown from trucks.  Life … ah … truth … stranger than fiction.  I hope the following gets the laughter going on this fine and rainy Saturday morn.  Or at least brings a smile.
