RIP Uncle Bubbie

B’s great uncle Noah aka Noahie aka Bubie passed away last night at the tender age of 98. He was the patriarch of the Simpson-Burns clan. Now it feels like our glue is missing. We can’t be sad for him because he’s no longer suffering. But for us? Well for us it hasn’t really sunken in … yet.

PoPo would visit Uncle Bubie weekly. He helped with his finances. But mostly they’d just talk. His mom’s older brother. More like a dad to him in some respects. This is gonna hurt 😔

May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God Rest In Peace.

As always more to come.

Lulu was looking through my limited jewelry stash for something to wear the graduation. I have a few nice pieces, inherited … that I am saving … for what I don’t know … because I rarely wear jewelry. Maybe giving it all to her now should be my gift??

Anyway… she found some guitar earrings and calls out “really mom … what gaudy earrings?”

My reply “it was the 80s”

When I went into my room to really look, I laughed …

Master Chef 5/29/19

New for season 10. The 19 year old from Grand Rapids MI gets the battle card from Gordon. He’ll cook off against whoever Joe and Aaron give their cards to. Street kid with a single tear running down his cheek started the waterworks for me. His family said “if you try out, don’t come home.” They’re completely against his wanting a career in the culinary arts. Here’s hoping he won’t need a place to go. Battle on!

As always more to come.

Hurry Up and Wait

I bring this on myself. Dang it! Oh well 😔 I’m early. Again! As always! Ugh 😑. Now I’ve got time to think 🤔. Boo! Over analyze is more like it.

Have you ever wanted something so bad for all the wrong reasons? That’s me. And I’m scared they might call my bluff. Will I have the guts to say no? Will I be able to stand not being the chosen one? I’d like to say yes.

Examining one’s motives is hard work. It’s not exactly attention seeking but along the same line. Validation! I crave validation.

If not this then something else. That whole reason thing I was talking about recently. Besides I’ve a few tricks up my sleeve … old dog 🐶 that I am.

As always more to come.

Random Musings ~ 5/28/19

You can be right or you can be happy.

The two are mutually exclusive.

I say be HAPPY.

In the same vein.

Everything happens for a reason.

The reason may not be clear until much later.

But make no mistake, there is ALWAYS a reason.

Points to ponder on this random Tuesday in May.

As always, more to come.

Trying to get the wrinkles out of Lulu’s graduation gown. I can’t iron worth a darn. I have the whole set up too … as a wedding gift. Almost 32 years old and still works. The trouble I’m having is purely user error. Unless a garment is wash and wear, I refuse to purchase it. Because I can’t iron. I had the best teacher but it didn’t take.

Times like this I miss my mom. She was an expert at ironing. Her mom brought in extra cash washing and ironing for other people. She and Aunt Annie were my grandma’s helpers. For years, mom ironed baptismal robes for St. MM altar society. She’d iron on the transfer and I’d go over it with liquid embroidery. And of course I’m getting misty eyed now remembering all this.

But they’re happy tears. I’m taking nothing for granted. Lulu deserves for this time to be happy not maudlin. We’re going low key but we’re serenely joyful. Is there even such a thing?

Post script from May of 2019.  The thing is that time … May 2016 was very maudlin for reasons of which I still cannot speak.  I know going back is impossible.  I still wish I knew then what I know now.  Oh my how I would have done things differently.  But we do the best we can at the time with the info at hand.  I remind myself if things has turned out differently, no guarantee they’d be any better now.  Actually things might be even worse.

J-Dub’s Review of “Book Smart”

Pretty sure no one has heard of this movie.  Definitely won’t make the Oscars.  This movie is a coming of age film about high schoolers … Class of 2019.  Centers around the parties on the night before graduation.  The relationships.  Overdone theme for sure.  No spoilers just speaking in generalities.

Directorial debut by Olivia Wilde.  Not half bad .. it was all bad.  Haha. Just joshing by citing the Muppets.   Truly this movie was not half bad.  With graduations this month and into the next, the timing was right.  Nice cameo by husband Jason Sudeikis.  I can think of worse ways to spend my Sunday.

J-Dub’s rating 3 of 5 stars.  Suggest waiting until this gem comes out on DVD.

As always, more to come.
