Howdy y’all. Time once again for the #SoCS roundup. Grab your partner and dosey doe. Linda tells is that our Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “rib.” Use it as a word, or find a word with “rib”in it. As always, use any way you’d like. Enjoy!
Here goes nothing. Rib. Think, think and think.
My first thought is good ole TX BBQ. Ribs are damn expensive and don’t really have much meat to them. I don’t care to work for my food either. Nawing on the bone like some kind of animal. But we are human animals so says the Walt Disney tune.
My second thought is anatomy. Once upon a time I wanted to be a nurse like my sweet Aunt Lavina Jo. I was working full time in the insurance biz but I wanted more than call center. Back then promotion was based on retirement or death so my options to advance were limited. I took evening classes in Biology I and II and Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) to make my switch into nursing.
And I aced those courses too. I got grades that Dr. T and Mr. Purcell said would cause me to get slashed tires. A very competitive environment and for some odd reason I excelled. Then came the practical application and on the first day I fainted. All I remember is someone saying “she’s going down” then I woke up to the sting of smelling salts.
And what’s this have to do with ribs? Well they are the bones I had to name along with all the others. There are 206 if memory serves. The easier part of A&P for me because this required memory but no touching. Unless you count the skeleton that we touched as we labeled him with our flash cards. Flash ah ah, King of the Universe. Q was so yesterday … lol
Moving right along. Truth be told ribs kind of gross me out. I know they are essential for protecting vital organs like our hearts and lungs but I am squeamish. Hat off to those fine folks – the caregivers of the world. As much as my heart was there, my actual abilities were seriously lacking.
And that’s all she wrote. To join in with this merry band of rib writing prompt respondents or to read their works extraordinaire, follow this path to the wonderful world of #SoCS that Linda created.
As always, more to come.
