Kicking it off with AC/DC because this band was my introduction into mixing media. Lyrics are stories set to music. How cool is that?!?!?!?
The year was 1979. I was a freshman in high school. Our English teacher Ms. R. was not much older than her students. She was a Ms. in the Miss world of Catholic education. She gave us an assignment to write about a band/song that influenced us. No censorship; we could pick whatever song we wanted. If we brought in the record, she’d play the song for the class. I’m talking turntable scratch here. Aahhh the good ole days.
I don’t have any idea what I wrote about and I bet I skipped out on the option to bring in the record. Whatever I did was no competition for my classmate S. She introduced us to “Highway to Hell”. Good Catholic school girl pushing the envelope. From the first ba-da-bamp, I was captivated. Sounds that you not only heard but that you FELT. Hells yeah!!! Listening to this song for the first time awoke something in me. Then rock and roll became a guilty pleasure. I knew my parents wouldn’t approve. That may have been the draw.
Without further ado here you go … Enjoy.
As always, more to come.
