Helen gave us the prompt “soul” and my first thought was the Blues Brothers movie and “Soul Man” the 1967 song written and composed by Isaac Hayes and David Porter. I assume there will be a “Soul Man” or two out there today so I went a different direction.
My selection is “Drift Away” written by Mentor R Williams. Many covered this song but to me, Dobie’s version is the best. I feel there could be doubles of this classic too but I am going forward anyways. “Give me the beat boy and free my SOUL!!!!”

That’s a great song. It takes me back to 1972 or thereabouts.

I’m getting a flashback on this song. I remember walking a 10k with my classmates at the time it was on the airwaves. Love this song and thanks for the flashback!

Love this song! And I agree, Dobie Gray is probably the best version.

A little known country artist recorded it one year before Dobie but his version didn’t make the charts.
