Wild Kingdom Around Here

Did I grab your attention with my title? This post could be about anything. Wild Kingdom seems to fit so many things these days. But I am not going there.  Enough already.

I’m going traditional. This post is about animal behavior like the Marlin Perkins’ Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom for those of us of a certain age who remember that show. Oh MY boys!

Yes I called my dogs MY boys as if they’re my grandchildren because … well because they are my grandchildren. I’m a crazy dog lady. So 52. 😂. I’m going to overuse my code profanity till I’m blue in the face. Hmmm. I wonder where that expression came from? Blue in the face. Stop it! Get back on track Jilly.

B feeds the dogs every morning and I take the evening shift.  But yesterday I was late so B stepped in to quite a surprise. Gross!  Trust me you’ll think so too.  Stop reading now if you are adverse to nature taking its’ course and/or do not want to read about gross stuff.

Here I take a pause.  Danger Will Robinson or some such warning!

Okay for those of you still along for the ride the conversation went something like this:

B: Spot or maybe Spot with Buddy’s help killed a cat and ate its’ head.

Me: WTF.  They did not.

B: Jill yes they did.  I just buried the cat.

Me: WTF. You did not.

B: Well I took my shovel and scooped up kitty cat remains (most of the head was gone) and placed them in the dirt near the garden.

Me: You’re kidding me. Not where we grow the vegetables!

B: No, NEXT to it.  I had extra dirt.  Anyway, I went to feed them and they were acting strange.  Pacing and whinnying. I wondered what was wrong and then I saw the cat right by the gate.

Me (interrupting): Dogs don’t whinny, that’s horses.  See you’re MSU – making stuff up. They did not eat a cat’s head!

B: They did okay.  And maybe they do not whinny but they gave an ooooo hound dog howling on a very low decibel (yes he said decibel)

Me:  Was blood all over the snouts?  Never mind, I don’t want to know.  Ugh, this is so gross.

B: It’s not gross, it’s the circle of life.

I may or may not have a picture of the kitty cat grave in my phone.  Because I had to see it for myself.  Okay so more likely NOT because B stopped me before I could take a picture.  He told me taking a picture for my blog is what would be gross.  As usual he was correct.

As always, more to come.

  1. I don’t know whether to like this post or not. Sure it was the dogs and not a raccoon? We’ve had raccoons in our backyard kill the ferrel cats that wander the hood. I freak out when I see the cats have left a mouse in our driveway so a headless cat? Double EWWWW

  2. Oh, poor little kitty! I hate that these things happen, but they do. We have the bird feeder out back, and we feed the outside cats plenty of cat food, but still they will kill birds any chance they get. They leave what’s left of the birds for us to find. So sad for the birds, and so gross too.
