Happy middle of the work week if you’re a Monday to Friday 9 to 5’er. Hey did you hear that they are remaking that movie 9 to 5? No originality anymore. Oh well, can’t fight city hall. On to J-Dub’s edition of #1linerWeds. Here are the rules and ping back.
Today is the feast day of the Assumption of Mary. There is a huge festival in Praha Texas at St. Mary’s church to celebrate. St. Mary’s is one of the painted churches so if architecture is your thing then a road trip may be in order. Growing up we attended the picnic every year no matter what day of the week it fell on. Dad would take a vacation day and off we’d go. Always beginning with 10 AM Mass and followed by music, food, and fun! I remember working in the popcorn and cotton candy booth with my aunt and uncle. Such a treat to pour in the sugar and watch the tendrils be released as you spin the paper cone around. Ah, the good old days.
As always, more to come.
Remake. Again. 😏So far I have liked….zero remakes of the past decade. Childhood memories can be so comforting. We always had a Halloween Carnival at my elementary school. Every classroom on each wing had a diffrent event. Cake walk. Doll walk. Grab bags. Fish pond. Candy room. Haunted house. Costume contest. Pumpkin contest. My Mom made her famous shredded barbecue beef for burgers and had to save some at home for us. By the time we got into the cafeteria it was history! Great times.

It sounds like a fun day. When I moved to New Mexico (too bad I moved away, but…) they had feast days for religious holidays I had never heard of on the east coast. I enjoyed them. Hugs.

I remember church festivals and picnics, and helping at the various booths.

I always enjoyed that. Felt grown up to work one of the booths. Fish pond and the cake walk were two of my faves after the popcorn and cotton candy.

Exactly! When the little kids would come over, we felt like adults.
