J-Dubs Review of small great things by Jodi Picoult

Sharing again. Might be time for a 3rd read through. This novel is that good.

J-Dubs Grin and Bear It

Worth every minute. Contemporary fiction that reads more like real life. Racism is at the core of this story seen from the lens of a black nurse – Ruth, a white supremacist father – Turk and the public defender- Kennedy.

Life lessons are plentiful and I immediately felt drawn to Ruth. The indignity she endured. I was outraged. I wanted to go to battle with her. I wanted her story to be heard. Yet all the while I asked myself who am I? I’ve got no idea what it’s like. I’m privileged. Through luck of the draw, I was born this way. I wondered how could I use my privilege to make a difference?

The author offers“When it comes to social justice, the role of the white ally is not to be a savior or a fixer. Instead, the role of the ally is to find other white people…

Poll Questions Part 2 ~ 4/16/18

Next, we have part two.   Your iPhone 6 that holds your life inside the 2 1/2 by 5 1/2 inch rectangle that it is started sucking battery like nobody’s bidness.  Yep 100 to 50 in 30 minutes.  Sacribleu.  Ever since the last update.  You know what Apple is doing and they are rotten.  You have turned the brightness down to squint mode and you are using low battery mode as well.

You’ve read about battery replacement and how the cost is discounted to deal with the backlash of folks claiming Apple and providers do not support prior models forcing upgrades.  Yep, too old and fluffy for the runway and you be kicked to the curb.

You know that your phone was born 12/1/2014 which means like dog age is to human age, your phone is ancient. You are part of company coverage.  You go online and check out the options.  They are legion.  You ARE eligible to upgrade for well over a year now.  You chat with Riza from AT&T who starts out with Happy Monday Jill, A blissful and amazing day to you!  No fair! Of course you have to buy new phone right?  When she starts off like that. Whew!

Now the questions:

  1. Do you replace the battery and keep the phone another year or so?
  2. Do you upgrade to a 7 or a SE for only 99 cents?
  3. Do you upgrade to a 7 plus for $119?
  4. Do you splurge for 8 or an X?  The X is $449 which is a steal right?

Decisions, decisions.  Oh and BTW, you kid’s iPhone is sucking battery just the same BUT she cannot get the company discount.  Maybe get her the new battery and you the new phone?

Inquiring minds want to know.  What would you do?

As always, more to come.

Poll Questions Part 1 ~ 4/16/18

Y’all my thoughts are popping like popcorn on a hot tin roof.

Doh! It’s like a Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Ya know, jumping before their little paws get burned.

Now c’mon Jilly-beans, you’ve got no idea what that means – Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.  Is that an idiom? Ugh, that was so April 10th. And no the idiom is hot and bothered.  You are neither hot nor bothered my friend.

Have I already confused you? Puhleese do not scroll on by, or swipe right (or left)

Ya see I’ve no idea which way to swipe. I am CONFUSED.

I’ve got two questions.  I am on a quest for opinions to help me decide.  J-Dub is fickle y’all.  You’ve no idea.  And these questions will come with back stories.  Cuz that’s how I roll.

You scratch the left side of your car being stupid and taking a turn too tightly.  The scratch is unsightly but the vehicle is driveable.  You  have a $1000 collision deductible (seemed smart at the time) and the estimate is $2400 smack-a-roos.  Your rates may go up as you exceeded the $750 threshold but you think you have automatic accident forgiveness but you wonder should you use it now???  Whew!

That is only the back story and finally the questions …

  1. Do you get your car fixed?
  2. If so with or without using your insurance? (And yes no fear! I have already reported online and closed the claim though they tell me it’ll take nothing to open it again)

All feedback is welcome.  Since this post was longer than I thought, I have created a part two.  After you opine here, swing on next door to see what else I need your help with. Ain’t too proud to beg sweet darlings. Puhleese tell me what you’d do.

As always, more to come.

N is for Nostaglia ~ April 16, 2018

Aaaah yes.  The good old days. Glorious bastards!

I have to ask myself though, were the good old days really that good?

And as I wait for your gifts of feedback, here are my two cents worth zilch after inflation is applied.  I believe nostalgia puts a twist on everything and my feelings are more revisionist history.  Re-painting the scene as something better than first experienced.  Not that the past is all bad.  Things were at times sweet and sentimental.  It is just that well … it is just that the past is gone.

I re-paint my memories a lot y’all.  It’s called denial.  And De-Nile isn’t a river in Egypt.  Are you using humor to deflect yet again J-Dub?  Your modus-operandi is tired and worn out girl.  Get some new shtick.

They say you can’t go home again.  I think “they” may be onto something.  Instead I am content to be present and fully live in the here and now.

Next is the interactive part.  Let me know your thoughts.  My comments section is lonely and open for business.  Mind outta the gutter people.  Lol.

As always, more to come.
