Helen has given us our prompt – lights. I am showing my age here as the first song that popped into my brain was Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band followed quickly by When the Lights Go Down by Journey. Both are classics released in 1976 and 1978 respectively. What I just learned today is that Bruce Springsteen aka the Boss WROTE and RECORDED Blinded by the Light first. Yep! He sure did. In 1973. Yet this cover version that follows is most recognizable and did better. Hit #1 in the US in February of 1977! Who knew?!?! Now we all do 🙂

This is such a classic! I was never a huge fan of Springsteen, so I’m going to say that I like this one better! 😉

Another classic! Thought of this one too while posting. Someone told me Springsteen wrote it but didn’t know he recorded it too. This one goes to Manfred Mann though! 💯

Yep. No one knew because he never cracked the top 100 with it. Manfred Mann was number 1 with a bullet as they say 😂

I’d never heard this version before. It’s not bad but I do prefer the Springsteen one!

Hindsight I should’ve put both up.

Springsteen said, “cut loose like a deuce”, which was a reference to dumping your girlfriend or anything that you want to get rid of, like throwing away a low card in poker. The duce in the Manfred Mann song “revved up like a duce” is a reference to a 1932 Ford, a hotrod with 70HP Flathead V8 which at the time it was built was the most powerful engine Ford put in it on the mass-production assembly line.
