#JusJoJan and #SoCS for 1/6/18

A merger

A meeting of the minds

Not much change for me

In combining #JusJoJan and #SoCS

Stream of consciousness is the main way I flow

ECO

Ecomony – uh no! enough of that! Too deep for this light Saturday morn

Economical – better, hits me in my purse strings.  I am a cheapskate though I prefer to say economical.  Lately that has us nickel and diming every single thing we purchase.  Meanwhile the house is in need of repairs and I tell B, screw, wait until it actually breaks.  In reality, I want to secretly hire a plumber to fix our master bedroom shower. He insists on “patching” until it breaks.  I’ll write more later … about the flood … from a shower exploding. Yes I am dramatic and there is no ECO in dramatic! Moving right along.

Economics – my favorite class in college because the teacher made the topic very interesting.  A tough subject for sure.  He told us first day, “no one will ace my class‘” And by the end of the semester, only 1/2 of us were left and the highest grade was a B.  He did NOT curve. But, we learned something …many somethings … which 32 years later I have forgotten. And perhaps, I promptly forgot the last day after the exam when I tore up my note cards.

Eco-friendly – yes! as a pack-rat recycler, eco-friendly is my muse!  I love reusable bags and I have a collection that I keep in strategic places such as the trunk of my car.  Still almost every clerk looks confused when I refuse their plastic bags or even the paper variety. No matter how many times I say “I brought a bag” they on rote memory pull a plastic one from the pile.  At one one there was word plastic bags might be outlawed or you’d have to pay for them.  Thinking was with the price, people would become eco-friendly and economical in favor of shelling out hard earned coin.  If I am not mistaken, the bill passed but was never put into practice.

Sort of like every school issue put to a vote when Pony was in high school.  I still say you snooze you lose.  They should have had uniforms!  The people had spoken!!! That was a rabbit hole.  I am known for them :).

In keeping with SoCS fashion, I could be making this up and fact checking is not part of the equation.

Happy Saturday Everyone.  As always, more to come.

  1. Depends on the state/region whether bags are a charged item. In our area (eastern NYS), bringing your own bags often gets you some money off your bill, because the stores automatically add the cost to your bill (annoyingly, if you refuse a bag because you only have one or two items, you are still charged the bag fee). That said, most employees I’ve dealt with have been more than happy to make use of my reusables. Hopefully the stores in your area will join the movement soon too.

  2. We have to bring bags to stores or we get charged for the plastic/paper bag. I am finally getting in the habit of remembering to bring into the stores the bags I have in my car for that purpose. 🙂

  3. I really enjoy my reusable bags, but I’ve notice any place where they bag a lot for you, there’s a tendency for the cashiers to take umbrage about it! I frown on that. I should be smiled at, dammit! So I still use their bags at Meijer, and then they get reused for all manner of things. Not a fan, regardless.
Your econ must have been some tough class, 1/2 gone is a good lesson to coasters 😛

    1. I should be smiled at too! 😉. The Econ class was tough. I can remember to this day! He told us if we passed his class, we’d pass Economics of the Firm our junior year. Sure enough we all did!
