Happy Anniversary to Me!

On February 6, 1984, some 33 years ago today, at 7:15 am, Central Standard Time, in San Antonio Texas at 9800 Fredericksburg Road, I was in a conference room with about 20 other people.

We were all seated around the polished boardroom table, nervous and anxious.  Well speaking for myself, I was nervous and anxious.  Why? This was new employee orientation.  My first “real” job. As opposed to the fake jobs I had had before.  😂.

Real because of the benefits.  Stable. A plan.  Not my original plan but things were exactly as they should be.  Who knew then just how awesome everything would turn out?!?!??

In those 33 years, I’ve had 25 different managers and I served in 15 different roles.  I’ve made many wonderful friends, lifetime confidants.  I’ve been allowed to try new things, to learn and grow.  I owe much of who I am today to the experiences I’ve had at work.  Not just a job, but a vocation.  And right now is the piece de resistance.  I’m living the dream, in the job for which I am most suited.  I am working downtown in a beautiful building on the historic Riverwalk.   I have the BEST coworkers ever! Da Riverwalk Crew. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m awake and it’s real.

I found this picture of me on my fifth service anniversary.  So young, just a baby really. Making it to 5 years was a milestone since I threatened to quit every other day for the first few years. But I stuck it out for the long-haul.  Thank goodness. I’m glad that I didn’t give up!   I’m grateful and beyond blessed.

The briefcase on my lap is what I selected for my anniversary gift.

As always, more to come.

      1. Always glad to be wiser, personally – not so pleased with the older part – lol. SO nice to read something positive – especially since last November!!! It’s always wonderful to be paid to do what you love – but to be paid to work in your dream job is rare – and in such a beautiful setting as well. Congratulations – and thanks for sharing.
