Funny Math Or New Math

The saga continues starting with the Luckiest Unlucky Guy in which Billy Bob won $75 smackaroos on lottery tickets.

Even though it’s Christmas Eve, he had an appointment with his doctor this morning to get an injection in his shoulder.  He has been powering through but his shoulder has been bothering him for quite some time.   He had an MRI and the injection was determined to be the next course of action.

He brought along his scratchers to cash in afterwards.   We joked that if the shot was a success, we would roll the dice 🎲 on more tickets but if the shot provided no relief, we’d take the cash.

The good news is the shot worked wonders.  Should last for at least three months and then he’ll be eligible for another injection.  There’s not much more they can do.  He’s not a candidate for surgery thank goodness.  At least not yet.

AnyWho we’re on cloud 9, heading to Rigsby Food Mart in Lakeside … the former Utotem ice house where as children we hung out and played video games back in the 80s.  Defender, Centipede, Pac Man.

Setting the stage like the Goldbergs … it was December 24 1980 something.  He entered the Food Mart while  J-Dub stayed in the car.  She looked over at the Nissan Maxima parked next to her and thought “that guy sure looks familiar”.  She moved up a channel to 80s on 8 and waited for Billy Bob to return.

Sure enough, as he exits with the “goods” Billy Bob stops to talk to the guy in the Maxima and it’s someone he went to high school with … who lives just down the road from us … who is working at Miller auto sales. The world is small people as big as it sometimes feels it’s really tiny.

AnyWho we made it back to the house and the scratching begins.  My heart is beating fast  Aaahhhh !!!  First ticket $10.  Then a lot of nothing … 😒.  Then he hits $5.  Then more nothing … 😒. Then the very last ticket is $10 for a grand total of $25.   And we also have a $10 ticket for tonight’s numbers drawing.  That’s the one that we really want to work in our favor.

Lulu says “Dad you lost 50 bucks”.

B says “I didn’t lose anything;  I only spent $8 to get this rolling.  So in that sense I’m up $17”.

Lulu continues “well you were up $67 and $67-$17 = $50”

B “nope I’m sticking to it.  I didn’t ever have that $67.  I lost nothing”

And that my friends is funny math or new math.  However you divide it my Billy Bob is a winner!!!

Feeling blessed and joyful.

As always, more to come.

Luckiest Unlucky Guy

Billy Bob hits on lottery tickets more often than not.  Last year at this time, he won big!  I thought 1k, he said no only $500. Just enough that he could still cash out at the store.  He had won $1500 one other time a while back and had to go the the lottery commission office. And I’ve done the math, he’s ahead despite the odds because he only partakes occasionally.

So today when he needed water to take his pills (yes he’s old and 😖) he bought the last two tickets off a roll. He’d heard it was good luck to get the last ones. And viola, $50 on one & $25 on the other = $75 smackeroos.  All for the low low price of $8.

He tells me the rule is cash out $100 or more but under that he should spin again!   I know he just likes the thrill of it.  Me too!  Here’s hoping for a bigger payday.

Darn that inner voice telling me wasteful and shameful. Gotta live a little!  Right?!? No snake eyes, momma needs a new pair of shoes 👠 👠

As always, more to come.

My home away from home

That was part of the one word exercise from earlier this month and I can’t remember what I put but if I had to think of one word to describe my home away from home I would change my answer to books 📚

I spent some time in Barnes & Noble looking for Christmas gifts 🎁.  They have a lot of good sales and I found an old-school journal for a buck 50 … the price was too good to pass up.

I’ve written a few little things and I feel such release.  As much as blogging in the virtual world has helped me get the voices out of my head, there are still some things that are just too personal and private and painful to post.  Wow that’s a lot of Ps.

I’m remembering a time in my past where I wouldn’t get out of bed on my days off.  I powered through the work week … one day at a time … minute by minute but come Friday at 4:30 all bets were off.  You’d see me again Sunday afternoon where the dread of Monday was a pit in my stomach. What an awful existence.

I don’t remember how or why the lightbulb went off but it did.  I started keeping a regular schedule and my sleep patterns changed.  Sleeping in on the weekends meant getting up at 7 am.  Still plenty of time to accomplish something.

It’s been years since I stayed in bed.  And today I thought I might give it a whirl.  Stay in bed all day with nothing to do or keep me occupied except for my books and my new journal.  For old time sake you know.  But the cliché saying is true … you can’t go home again.   And wasting the day is still an awful existence.

With that I am up and out of here.  Wishing you all a wonderful day.

As always, more to come.

Shout from the mountain tops

I know I post a bunch of stuff about doctors and I use all kind of cursewords WTF whatever but here’s a good doctor story.  The second one in a week so go figure.

We’ve been going to the same Eye doctor for 20 years! Yes you heard that right 20 years!  We took Pony  there for the first time at the age of eight. A little private practice on the east side of town … east side and proud!

AnyWho, we’ve been threatening to leave since the staff is sometimes awful and you wait forever but what kept us there was the sweet doctor

the adorable doctor

the very handsome doctor

the doctor who  is salt of the earth and says “God bless you”

And because of him we put up with all the other stuff.

Well apparently feedback is a gift 🎁.  And because of the feedback (from us and countless others) changes have been made within the last year.  And those changes are fantastic.  Same staff took some training.  Learned a trick or two.

Lulu and I had eye exams today. Appointments at 3:15 and 3:30. We were out of there by 3:45.  Of course we got there at 2:45 because I’m the weirdo who’s habitually early LOL    Still that has to be a record.

Just like family!   We get irritated then we make up. Now onto more birthday festivities.  Early bird special at a new place since Hsiu Yu is closing 😟.

Oh and I skipped  fixing my hair for this post … this is how important it was to shout out from the mountain tops.  Things are taking  a turn for the better on the healthcare front.  Dramatic?  you know it!

Channeling our inner Joans. Her Jett.  Me Crawford. 😂

As always, more to come.

Yes Today IS All About Me

Just kidding… kind of … not really

If these aren’t happy birthday dancing shoes, I don’t know what are ?

The inside are floral print and they make me HAPPY!  Ah the little things in life 💕🎶🎉

This is me 51 years ago.  Which means today I turn 52!  Woo Hoo!!

Time sure flies when you’re having fun and even when you aren’t.  Good thing is that most days ARE fun.

Sadly today is one of those that isn’t!   Well hell it’s bittersweet.  My cousin died today.  May she rest in peace. May the perpetual light shine upon her.

This is sad, so so super sad yet relief at the same time because she’s no longer in pain.  And for that I am thankful.

So as you’re out and about and doing what it is that you do, I wish you a super fantastic day.  That’s the best way to honor someone who’s gone … by choosing to remember the good things.

As always, more to come.
