I work for a major financial services provider in San Antonio TX. I’m physically located at a small satellite office downtown on the Riverwalk . Every once in a while I have to go to the home office affectionately known as the mothership 😂. Today was one of those days.
And, I didn’t really want to go to work at all today much less face the behemoth that is home office. But hi ho hi ho off to work I went.
I was there for good cause and my blessings are many. In no particular order, some follow:
- Recognition lunch for employees with 26-39 year tenure. Me I have 32 years of the 45000 years total. Yea you got that right peeps 45000 years of experience gathered together. That’s stellar. Plus I sat across from someone who had gone to high school with my brother in law and who’s brother went to school with Billy Bob. Brief mini reunion!!! Go Hornets 🐝
- Recognition by me to two business partners. We took pictures in superhero garb for our internal communications. For the record, saying thank you feels fantastic. Try it sometime, you’ll see.
- Reconnect albeit briefly with former coworker and I got my big ole bear hug and became part of Team Trey. Life gives his kid lemons and his kid says I’m still gonna play! What a role model. Inspiration. Hope.
- Marked some items off my work to-dos. Overall a very productive day!!
What started off so sucky, ended positively. I just needed time for quiet reflection and the ride home gave me time for that. As always, I think about my parents who I miss immensely.
My parents were patriots. True blue Americans. They believed in the democratic process and were active participants in that process. No idle lip service, full on support. I know without a doubt that they would’ve accepted the results of this election and moved forward. Both came from a generation where respect and how one treats others says more about them. They taught me that sore losers are small minded and winners don’t gloat.
So I’ll save my tears for the pillow and I’ll rise up. To make my parents proud. I’ve finally found my voice and I’m not going to give that up.
As always, more to come.
